The foundation of Leslie's artwork and technique lie in the study and practice of Tibetan thangka art-using both painting and appliqué methods. Based on prescribed iconography these various Buddhist deities are first designed and constructed in silks and brocades and later finished with shading and linework. Whilst working on the giant thangkas of Tsurphu , Leslie was fascinated by an appliqué technique found in eastern Tibet which fuses textiles and painting . Inspired, she later adapted it to creating her thangkas.
